Berried Cottoneaster

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This past week I've taken a dive into my stencils.  It was mainly because I was
invited to Seize the Birthday as a Surprise Party Guest and the challenge is A CAS card
using a stencil.  This was my first try and it would have worked fine except that I was
careless when I went back to emboss again after coloring and got a crease on the
front of the card.

Hence the sentiment layers.  They work to cover up the boo boo, but took
some of the clean and simple out of the card front.

The photo doesn't show the texture from the embossing.  That's my favorite part of this card.

Lucky me that Lisa at Just Us Girls is asking for Anything Goes with a stencil.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Special Sentiments (PB)
Ink:   Early Espresso (SU), Spiced Marmalade, Barn Door, Aged Mahogany, Mowed Lawn, Forest Moss, Vintage Photo (DI)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Early Espresso
Other:  Berried Cottoneaster EF & Stencil (Alt)

Enjoy!

Sending You Gnome

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Last week our Craft Group met and our hostess had stamped some
gnomes for us to color and put on cards.

I was having a hard time coloring that day and ended up with gnomes in
the trash, but I had stamped and colored some of these gnomes when my friend
had lent me the stamps and dies at an earlier time.  Those gnomes were waiting
patiently to find their place on a card.

Freshly Made Sketches to the rescue!

Here's Narelle's sketch

The gnome was colored with Copics and the background is a new embossing
folder that I just had to buy after seeing Donna's fabulous cards.

I'll complete the sentiment when I know what I'll send it for.  I'm thinking it would
make a good get well card.  A cup of hot tea and a good book always make me
feel better.

I'll take this to the Darnell's NBUS gallery too since this is the first time
I've used this embossing folder and Jan's gnomes.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Storytime Gnomes (SB), Sending You Phrases (Creek Bank)
Ink:   Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Storytime Gnomes dies (SB), Copics, Cracked EF (TH), Slim Stripes die (PFS)

Enjoy!

Stenciled Leaves

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have another stenciled card today.  This one is for a grandson's birthday and it's
a monarch size slimline card that works great for a money holder.

I have lots of stencils, but I'll admit that they are not something I think to pull out
unless there is a challenge to use them.  That doesn't stop me from buying more though.
And I always usually enjoy using them.

I thought these leaves would work well for a masculine adult card.  It's hard to believe
that he is an adult now.  Time flies!

I used brushes to add fall colors of ink through the stencil and added some
depth with watercolor pencils.

Then I added some stamped splatters.  I'm not sure I like them, but they are
here to stay.

Challenges:
Krafty Chicks #787 - Masculine
Time Out #298 - Pick two from the board below (I picked Season (Fall), Edge and if stamped counts I've got spatters too)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Thoughtful Messages (SSS), Splatters (?)
Ink:   Early Espresso, Baked Brown Sugar (SU), Crushed Olive, Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade (DI)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Leaves stencil (SSS), Caran d'ache Supracolor Pencils (Dk Carmine), Arteze Watercolor Pencil (Hazlenut)

Enjoy!

Wild Blossoms for Seize the Birthday

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I am happy and honored to be a Surprise Party Guest at
Seize the Birthday!

I have two cards to bring to the party.

First of all, the challenge, brought to us by the very talented Nanc'

I've used a new to me stencil from Papertrey Ink.

I'll confess the first card I did with it was not quite CAS.  It turned out to
be my favorite.  I'll share that at the end of this post.

I used Distress inks and blending brushes to stencil the designs.

After I had the stenciling done, I cut the design and used the Subtle embossing
folder on the part I intended to use.  Then I had trouble figuring out how to
lay it out and keep it CAS.

The Peek-a-boo Frame rescued that dilemma.

There was a flower left over so I got another CAS card.

Finally the not CAS card...

Now it's your turn.

Be sure to go see what the wonderful Design Team and Johanna have done.
You're sure to be inspired.  Then join us with a birthday card.  You can use this option
or any birthday card will do.

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:
Ink:   Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon, Peeled Paint, Wilted Violet
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Wild Blooms Stencil (PTI), Subtle EF (ret SU), Peek-a-boo Rectangle die (MFT), Bright Butterflies die (SSS), White Gel Pen

Card Recipe (card 2)
Stamps:
Ink: Wild Honey, Ripe Persimmon, Peeled Paint, Wilted Violet
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Cajun Craze

Card Recipe (card 3)
Stamps:

Jumbo Mum

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

As soon as I saw the sketch at The Flower Challenge, I knew exactly what I
wanted to do with it.  Usually a sketch makes me scratch my head.
But time has been tight and I was happy to be able to use my idea and even
happier that it worked out as I'd hoped.

I stamped this beautiful mum and leaves with white ink and heat embossed it
with white powder.  I used Distress re-inkers as watercolors and
cut the flower and leaves out with the matching dies after it dried.

After mounting it in the corner of a piece embossed with the subtle embossing
folder, I trimmed off the excess and stamped a sentiment.

Here's the sketch and the link to The Flower Challenge.

Card Recipe
Stamps: Jumbo Spider Mum (Ton), Thoughtful Messages (SSS)
Ink:   Whisper White, Memento Tuxedo Black
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Neenah Solar White
Other:  Re-inkers (Spun Sugar, Abandoned Coral, Peeled Paint, Spiced Marmalade), Jumbo Spider Mum die (Ton), Subtle EF (ret SU)

Enjoy!

Thanksgiving Berries

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Here's another card with leftovers from that last class.

My sweet friend Bobby chose a mood board for the Just Us Girls #793 challenge.
I was inspired by the orange berries on her mood board and there's orange berries
on the Four Seasons mood board too.

The berries are die cut from cold press watercolor paper and I found the easiest
way to color the cut was to use a finger dauber to add ink, then use a waterbrush to
blend.  The markers left a too dark border that wouldn't blend well.

We used a different embossing folder for the class card too.

It used the layout of the card you can see in this post and berries from another
card that I colored orange this time.  Here's the card from class...

Challenges:
Just Us Girls #793 -  Mood Board
Penny Black Saturday - Use Penny Black (die) with option of spots or stripes (spots on the berries?)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Bountiful Harvest (Verve OOB)
Ink:   More Mustard, Pumpkin Pie, Garden Green
Paper:   Watercolor (Arches Cold Press), Cinnamon Cider, Neenah Natural
Other:  Winter Berry Branch die (PB), Decorative Sentiments die (EMD), Fallen Leaves EF (SZ)

Enjoy!

Falling Leaves

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It was a busy weekend with classes and this card is a spinoff from
a card we did for the classes.

Some of the leftover leaves made me think of dear friend Michele's sketch at
Freshly Made Sketches.

Here's her sketch...

For the leaves, I had wet a piece of watercolor paper and dropped re-inker into
the water, moving it around a bit with the waterbrush.  I dried between colors and left
space for other colors.  One piece ended up too light and the other too dark so it
balanced the leaves out.

Here's the card for class.

It used a different embossing folder and the corner was folded instead of torn.
There were fewer leaves too, including one that was "invisible" and needed
a closer look to find it!

I wish you all could have come and stamped with me!

Challenges:
Can You Handle the Pressure - Use and embossing folder/option of using layers
Freshly Made Sketches #704 - Sketch by Michele

Card Recipe
Stamps: Bountiful Harvest (Verve OOB)
Ink:   More Mustard (SU)
Paper:   Cinnamon Cider, Neenah Natural, Watercolor (Arches CP)
Other:  Re-inkers (Crushed Curry, Tangelo Twist, Taken with Teal, Old Olive), Leafy EF (SB), Caldwell Label Set (PS), Layered Leaves Dies (MFT)

Enjoy!

Birthday Poppies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm still trying to get through my NBUS box.  It seems that I take 2 steps forward
and 3 steps back.

For this card I used a stamp and die set that a treasured friend sent me for my birthday.
She knows how much I like poppies!

I stamped the layered stamps on watercolor paper and blended the colors with
a waterbrush and Distress re-inkers used as watercolors.  I love the intense color
I was able to get.

I embossed a piece of Naturals White cardstock with my linen embossing folder.
Die cut the watercolored poppies and popped them on the embossed panel.

A foiled sentiment finishes it off.

Challenges:
NBUS #78 - Never Before Used Sctuff
Seize the Birthday #313 - Use Embossing

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Poppy Fields (EH &ALT), PP It's Your Day
Ink:   Toffee Crunch
Paper:  Watercolor (Arches HP), Black, Naturals cardstock
Other:  Poppy Fields dies (EH & ALT), Morning Blossom die (SSS for stems), Burlap EF (HB), Distress re-inkers (Peeled Paint, Mustard Seed, Candied Apple, Barn Door), White Foil

Enjoy!

Poinsettia for Color Hues

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

It's time for a new challenge at Color Hues.

This month our colors were chosen by the very talented Jules.

I love these colors together and they were perfect for this NBUS background
poinsettia stamp.

I bought the background stamp a couple of years ago when Wplus9 closed up shop.
I don't know why it's taken me so long to pull it out of the NBUS box.
I had so much fun making this card that I made another using a different shade of blue
that is more aqua.  It doesn't look that different in the photo though.

For both of these cards I did an emboss resist on mixed media paper.
After wetting the paper, I dropped re-inker onto the card and used a
waterbrush to "guide" the color.  It takes awhile for it to dry, but it's well
worth the wait!

Now let's go over to Color Hues and see what the my talented friends and our
fantastic Guest Designer Birgit have done to inspire you.

I hope you'll create a card using Smokey Blue and Sage Green and add it to the
gallery at Color Hues.

Please only use hues of these two colors. Neutrals are welcome.
Challenge ends at 9:00 AM on September 29th.
The winners will be posted an hour before our next challenge and the overall
winner will have the opportunity to be a future Guest Designer.

Most importantly, just have fun!
