Pleasant Poppy Splotches

A couple of years ago I did a tutorial on what I called

And this is another card I made using this technique.

I've been revisiting that technique.

See what happened.

This time I used Crushed Curry and Calypso Coral ink refills.

I'm not telling how many tries it took to get a piece I liked.

Then when I stamped the poppies, the stems didn't stamp right.

So here's the lemonade....

I love lemonade!

Check out the Paper Crafter's Library.
They're Technique Tuesday is all about watercolor today.

Thanks for the visit.

Enjoy!

Pleasant Poppies for Jan

This is the birthday card I did for my friend Jan.

The poppies were stamped with Soft Suede and colored with Stampin' Up! Markers by coloring the petals first with Pink Pirouette then swiping the Primrose marker on a plastic lid and picking up the color with a blender pen to add depth to the petals.

There was a little smudge around the flowers so I spritzed some Raspberry Ripple with the Color Spritzer tool (retired).  I find that it's a good way to disguise a boo boo.

I did the antenna by snipping a tiny piece of black scrap and adhering it to the underside of the butterfly with a glue dot.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Pleasant Poppies, Blooming with Kindness
Ink: Soft Suede, Raspberry Ripple, SU Markers (Pink Pirouette, Primrose Petals, Early Espresso, Certainly Celery, Lucky Limeade, Raspberry Ripple)
Paper:  Raspberry Ripple, Whisper White, Cherry Cobbler (for butterfly)
Other:  Square Lattice EF, 2 1/2" Circle Punch, Beautiful Wings Embosslit, Basic Pearls, Color Spritzer Tool

I'm so glad you took the time to stop by.

Poppies for Jennifer

The Featured Stamper at SCS this week is Jennifer Timko.  I've been following Jennifer for quite some time and love her work.  I've probably CASEd her before but welcomed the chance to do so again.  You can see the card I used for inspiration here.  I used her layout and changed the image, colors, location of the sentiment and ribbon treatment.

Dynamic Duos #45 picked my colors

The CAS challenge at SCS asks that we use only line stamps, no solids!

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Pleasant Poppies, All Holidays (retired)
Ink:  Soft Suede, SU Markers (Pretty in Pink, Regal Rose, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake)
Paper:  Whisper White, Soft Suede, DSP
Other:  Blender Pen, Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon

I recently had an email about the ribbon treatment on this card and thought I would use it again.  It's just a knot tied about an inch from one edge and the other end wrapped around to the back of the design piece.  A glue dot works really well under the knot (and under the tail as I found out when I was editing a picture with a droopy tail).  Another glue dot fixed it up just fine.

If you want some good inspiration I recommend a visit to Jennifer's blog.  What a treat!

I'm glad you could stop by to visit.

Enjoy!

Featuring Loll

I have admired those pretty poppy stamps and been oh so tempted to order one either in digital or rubber.  I could never decide which one I wanted.  Stampin' Up! finally has released a poppy stamp and is it a beauty! So the decision was pretty much made for me.  I'm glad I waited.

See what I did with it.

I had some help from the Featured Stamper at SCS this week.  Loll Thompson is a fantastic stamper and it was really hard to decide on something of hers to CASE.  I finally settled on this card mainly because I had just got the Pleasant Poppies stamp.  Did you go look?  Isn't her card so pretty?

I used SU markers to color the flowers and used a different complimentary color, used embossed cardstock instead of DSP, added some scalloped edges and added a sentiment.

I cut my Poppy stamp in 2 parts so I can use it all together or a smaller bunch as I did here.  It's easy to mount  both pieces on a block to use as a background.  I think I'll probably use the smaller parts more.  I like getting more mileage out of my stamps.

And if you have problems, like I used to,  keeping clear mount stamps on the blocks, try putting a strip of 2-Way Glue on the side that you mount.  Let it dry good.  It's a removable glue like sticky notes and keeps the stamp in place without leaving a residue.  Just be sure to let it dry before you try to mount it.  I saw this tip on Lee's blog.  She has a whole tutorial on how to get the clear mount stamps ready to use.
