Love is in the Air

Here's another card made from the leftovers of the last class.  I love using the components of one card and challenging myself to make something a little bit different.

Again I used the Sahara Sand card with Island Indigo and White.  The heart from Punch Potpourri (retired) was stamped in Sahara Sand then overstamped with the butterfly from Kindness Matters and the postmark from French Foliage. (I stamped off on scrap paper before stamping on the heart.)

Featuring Field Flowers

Here's some flowers for the Featured Stamper at SCS this week.  Her name is Vicki (vdm) and, my oh my, I could have CASEd her whole gallery!  But since I only had time for one, this is the one I chose.

I used different colors, punch and sentiment and also added a butterfly.

I used some Faux Flower Soft in the center. (Recipe below)

Faux Flower Soft:  

• Rub 2 stryrofoam balls together and catch in a self closing sandwich bag.  
• Add a few drops of re-inker and smoosh all around.  
• Let dry and add to projects as needed.

Simply Simple

I'm a bit late with this, but the Featured Stamper at SCS on Sunday was jandjccc aka know as Mary.  I am wowed by Mary's gallery.   She has lots of CAS cards with embossing and butterflies.  Is it a surprise that I love her cards?

I didn't pick a specific card, but rather enjoyed all of them.  So here's one for you Mary.  And thank you for all the inspiration.

I see that Addicted to Stamps is having a CAS week.  So I thought I'd take this over to their playground too.

And lastly, but not leastly, that little butterfly used a snippet of DSP so I'm going over to Pixies Crafty Snippet Challenge.  Sorry I'm so late to the party this week.  I can see lots of these elegant butterflies flitting out of that box of scraps!  Do go to Pixie's and see what the rest of the snippet users are coming up with.

Thirteen years ago today, our first grandchild was born.  It doesn't seem possible that the tiny infant is now a teenager!  Happy Birthday sweet boy  young man.  In my mind you're still that tiny baby that took my breath away.

CAS - Dark Blue and White

Here's another card that I made while playing with the baby wipe technique.

The CAS challenge at SCS this week is to use Dark Blue and White.

I used Bashful Blue, Not Quite Navy and Night of Navy re-inkers on the baby wipe.  I went heavy to the darker colors.

Here's one that we made at Papercrafting using Marina Mist, Baja Breeze and Certainly Celery.

And with a Marina Mist card and a little branch from the bird punch.

I think I like the last one best.

The embossing folder is in the new Holiday Mini.  It has a little Christmas tree embossed in it but by placing the bird strategically it's not just for Christmas.  Thanks for the idea,  Doris.

When I was finished, I laid a piece of cardstock on the baby wipe and pressed it down.  It made a delightful background.  I haven't had a chance to stamp anything on it yet.

Freshly Made Sketches Addicted to Blue

I'm just under the wire for the Freshly Made Sketch this week.  At least I hope I'll have this posted before the gong sounds.

I was stamping with friends in Roanoke Rapids Saturday and got this done.  I can't take everything when I go.  It would take a moving van, LOL.  So I had limited supplies.  That was a challenge, but a fun one


Yesterday was so busy that I didn't get a chance to post it.  I see that the big butterfly doesn't show up as a flutterer.  His wings are a bit raised.  I was hurrying too much to take the photo.

I see that there's almost 100 entries! Wow, what a lot of inspiration there.

Addicted to Stamps latest challenge is Addicted to Blue.  We are to create something that is BLUE.

When I went to Addicted to Stamps to get the link, I saw that my Christmas is July card won as the 

Wow, that's exciting!  Now I have a badge to prove that I'm addicted!

Today is my birthday and we celebrated yesterday with our daughters.  They bought me a Kindle.  I never thought I wanted one, but I can see lots of possibilities that it will open up.  Especially since the CD player in my car is being fickle and doesn't always want to work.  If it dies completely I'll have a means to listen to my audiobooks.  And I can read some of Ken Follet's heavy novels without straining my wrist.  Do you have a Kindle or Nook?  How do you like it?

Funky Dahlias

I was so excited to be asked to be a guest designer on the SUO challenge.  The theme is Bright Summer Days.

Get out your sunglasses!

A little masking and one of the flowers from the Bright Blossoms set, that you'll see in the new catalog, makes a really bright Summer card. {That new catalog goes live on Friday.}

I used one of the new In Colors, Raspberry Ripple.  I love this color and when paired with Daffodil Delight, it really shines.  New In Color, Gumball Green, is great for leaves.  I stamped it full "strength" first then decided it needed to be stamped off first for the rest of the leaves.  It's a rich, bright green. Umm Mmm!

The little butterfly is from the Kindness Matters set. There are 3 beautiful little butterflies in this set that are perfect for coloring and cutting out to add to a flower garden.

Kindness Matters

The Less is More Challenge this week is a sketch with lots of white space.

Yeah, I know it's not square.  Square cards take extra postage or extra work on the envelope, so I went with what I'm comfortable using.  The sketch is there, just elongated.  Hope the challenge police don't come after me.

I've got to confess that I whacked the butterfly stamp.  I have the clear set and I used a blade to cut the butterflies apart.  I can still fit them together on a block, or space them further apart, or even line them up vertically. This time I used the largest butterfly and didn't have to worry about the other little guys smudging.  I think I'll get a lot more mileage out of this stamp this way.  And the best thing is that this set will be with us for another year.  Yippee!

 And kindness does matter.

Going Green Again

I wasn't sure if yesterday's card would count for the Less is More challenge to use

Three Shades of Green

So I did another.

I used the pretty flower sprig from the Nature Walk set, inking the leaves with Wild Wasabi and the flower heads with Certainly Celery and stamping several times without re-inking .  The butterfly is from the Kindness Matters set and was stamped in Jet Black StazOn and colored with my Lucy Limeade marker, cut out and adhered in the middle so the wings could spread a bit.

Super quick and easy.

Fun Colors

The ColourQ colors caught my eye this week and since I don't have any events to prepare for, I was free to play.  This is what I came up with.

I love these bright Springy colors!

Aren't they beautiful?  I love that basket!

I stamped the little flowers from the Easy Events set with Jet Black StazOn and colored them with SU markers. I used the Tempting Turquoise Stampin' Pastel for the background and sponged with the Nesties die still on the circle.

I've adhered Certainly Celery, Daffodil Delight and Tempting Turquoise grosgrain ribbon on a scrap of DSP for the strip behind the design.  The butterflies are from the Kindness Matters set, colored with SU Markers and cut out.  The blue one is Tempting Turquoise but looks more blue in this photo.

I used the layout from retrosketches.  It's a new sketch challenge hosted by Arielle who also hosts colourQ.  This is the sketch this week.

Masking

The Less is More challenge this week is....MASKING


A few weeks ago I did some masking on a one layer card  using the Greenhouse Garden flowers.  I really liked the effect and this was just the excuse I needed to try it again.

I'm not sure it's Clean and simple enough, buy I hope so.

This is a two-step stamp.  I stamped the solid flower head with Regal Rose and the outline with Rose Red.  I love these colors together. I inked the stems and leaves of the large stamp of the Just Believe set with my Old Olive marker and stamped over the flowers after masking all of them.  I actually stamped it more than once then drew some stems for the flowers with the brush tip of the marker.

The butterfly is from the Kindness Matters set. I love these little butterflies and they are as pretty cut out and separated as all together.

The sentiment is from a retired set, Bird on a Branch. And the embossed scallops were done with an Adorning Accents Embossing Folder.

The layout is from the CAS challenge yesterday at SCS to use this card as a sketch.

I also did this card using lighter colors but I thought it was too much for Less is More.

What do you think?

I used Blushing Bride and Peach Pizzazz for the flowers, Old Olive and Daffodil Delight for the foliage, and used all three butterflies from the Kindness Matters set, cut them out and lifted the wings a bit.  Actually, the larger butterfly was stamped over the masked flowers.  I stamped it again and cut it out.  That way I didn't have to draw the antennae.  The yellow flowers were stamped, cut out and adhered.

This week's  Less is More challenge was....

For our first Anniversary we are back to a repeat of our inaugural challenge which for the first

Saturday of the month is colour...and this time we have chosen

AQUA

Here's the first card I did.

When I first read the challenge, I thought butterflies and this is my go to butterfly right now.  It's also a Sale-a-bration selection (free with a $50.00 order).

I colored 2 of the largest butterflies so I could cut one out and have him fluttering.  All of the butterflies were colored by swiping the marker on a clear block and picking up the color with a blender pen.

The next card will look familiar.  It's the same layout as yesterday's card.  I love this versatile layout.

I thought about adding a flower, but the "Less is More" stopped me.

Did you notice the edges on the white band?  I used another of the Adorning Accents Edgelits and the embossing folder that goes with it.  It's the first time I used it and it won't be my last. I love those scallops!

Another Word

I fell in love with this stamp set the first time I saw it in the 2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalog.  And I was so excited to see that you can get it free during Sale-a-bration.  That's just a few weeks away.

I used the Naturals White cardstock on this card.  I love the extra weight and the natural look of it.

Paper Playin Queen

I'm coming in just under the wire with this one. I had baby Jack all day and he didn't cooperate with card making at all! He's still young. Hopefully I can train him to let Nana play!

The Paper Players Challenge this week is a sketch challenge. This is a great sketch for my favorite CAS style of card.

And the Queen for the Day at SCS is Linda aka Holstein. Linda has been so gracious to comment on my cards at SCS. I love her gallery and did a combination of two cards. You can see them here and here. What a pleasure to honor her!

I embossed the top of a piece of Whisper White cut 5 1/2" x 4" with the Elegant Lines Embossing Folder. Then I flipped it over and scored lines 1/4" apart on the bottom. Did you know that Stampin' Up! will be selling a scoring tool? It will be available to the public on September 1st.

The butterflies are stamped with StazOn and painted with a blender pen dipped into ink pads.
