Sunflower Note

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm starting to feel more comfortable with the layered stencils and I fell in love
with this sunflower stencil from Papertrey Ink.

I used brushes to add ink through the stencils then added highlights with my
Caran d'ache Supracolor Pencils.  The background was looking too white,
so brushed over it with the ink left on the yellow brush.

The die cut sentiment was cut from colored cardstock and the backing die
cut from vellum.

Purple Petals

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I had a birthday recently and a sweet and generous friend gifted me
with some craft cash.  It didn't take long to find something to spend it on!

My friend Marcia recently posted a card using this stencil and die set and it immediately
went on my wish list.  I was delighted that I didn't have to wait long to order it and I wasn't
disappointed!  It's so easy to use and the die works beautifully with the design goinging
all the way to the edge of the die cut!  Thanks for the enabling my friends!

Dreamy Wisteria

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Sadly I needed another sympathy card.  It seems like I'm needing more
of these lately.  I have some in my stash, but this is for a very special person
and it warranted a special card made just for her.

I found the stenciled wisteria in my UFO box.  It was a past calendar page and
the coloring was a little too bright so I added a piece of vellum over top
and framed it.  It was impossible to get a good photo with the vellum.

The butterfly was in with the die and had been cut from a shimmery paper.

I wanted to leave the front uncluttered so I added the sentiment inside the card.

Challenges:
Memory Box #118 - Butterflies
Stencil Fun - ATG using stencils
Time Out #286 - Use at least 2 of the words in the prompt below (I used stencil and floral)

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Wilted Violet, Shabby Shutters (DI)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Vellum
Other:  Wisteria Stencil (TCW), Notched Corner Frames (PFS), Subtle Texture EF (ret SU), Dreamy Butterfly (MB)

Enjoy!

Embossing Paste Play

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers made cards using embossing paste.

I chose this stencil that has two branches on it and white embossing paste.
I put a drop of Mint Macaroon re-inker on my craft mat and mixed some embossing
paste into it until the color was smooth and even.

Using a palette knife, I added the paste through the stencil and when it was covered
good, I scraped it smooth with the same knife.

I used the larger branch for this first card and made it into a Dogwood tree.
Our dogwoods are blooming now and so pretty!

The leaves weren't quite dark enough, so I replaced the stencil after the paste
was dry and sponged some darker green ink on the base of the leaves.

The second card was done using the smaller branch and I got some smudges of
embossing paste where they didn't belong.

The wings of this butterfly covered the smudges very well.  It was cut from
a piece of silver sparkle specialty paper that had alcohol ink dripped on top and
moved around with a puffer.

Smaller flowers made this into a cherry tree or some kind of blooming tree.

I've learned to clean the stencil as soon as I finish with the paste.  I keep a dish of
water in the studio to drop the stencil in when I'm finished.  When I'm ready to take
it to the sink, the paste hasn't hardened on the stencil. And it's very easy to add color
to the paste with re-inkers.

The Group of Seven blogsite has some step by step instructions and a linky.
If you'd like to try this you can add your card and let us know how it worked
for you.

Challenges:

Two Frogs

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I've been having some fun with a NBUS stamp from Unity.

I did both a masculine and a feminine version.

First up the masculine version.  This was a take off of a card we did in my last class.

The frog is stamped and heat embossed with clear powder, then watercolored.

The navy piece is dry embossed.  It didn't want to show up well in the photo.
One side of it didn't emboss for some reason (user error, I'm sure) so I cut that
part off and added it green background.

Since I had another frog stamped, I decided to make a feminine version...

I stenciled some hearts in the background and added this one on a pink heart.
I gave him a crown cut from White and heat embossed with gold. I've added inside that
"you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince".  It goes to my teenage granddaughter.

Challenges:
Can You Handle the Pressure - I used the twist of something that begins with the letter F (Frog)
Just Us Girls #761 - Use a Die Cut Heart
NBUS #71= Never Before Used Schtuff
Stencil Fun - Use Stencils with option of pink or red

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:  Feelin' Foggy (Unity)

Birthday Candles

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Happy Birthday/Anniversary to Darlene and Diane of Double D fame.
Their challenge is celebrating 9 years.  I've given them a candle to grow on.

These candle dies have been sitting in my NBUS box for way too long.

I've die cut the candles from Neenah Solar White and brushed Simon Says Stamp
Pawsitively Saturated Ink in various colors.  There's a solid die in the set and the candle
flame so I cut those out of the Neenah too.

After coloring the candles, I used the leftover ink on the brushes to add a
stenciled background.

Challenges:
Double D - Birthday or Anniversary
NBUS #70 - Never Before Used Schtuff
Seize the Birthday #297 - Use something new
Stencil Fun - Did not us the Winter option

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Friendship Messages (SSS)

Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Patterned Birthday Candles Dies (Frantic Stamper), Square Dance Stencil (Artsploratons)

Seagull Fun

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

My friend Nance and I hadn't had an opportunity to get together for
a long time.  I think we figured it had been 8 months! Fortunately we were
able to work it out recently and we had a lot to catch up on.

Nance brought some of her recent purchases and I shared some of mine.
I couldn't resist her seagulls.

I combined this fun fella with a new stencil for a beachy scene.

I "caught" this guy in a Polaroid shot and embossed the frame.

The stenciling on the card base was done with the leftover ink on my blending
brush from the first card and the background was in my stash.

Pressed and Stenciled Cosmos

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I think I'm on the right week now!
After being cornfused last week about which week we were on with
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S, I pulled out another NBUS stencil to
color a pressed design.

The Betterpress Cosmos Backdrop plate is NBUS too and I pressed it a couple of
different ways.  This first card was a second pull and evidently there was no ink
left on the plate.  It left a nice debossed image though and I was able to line the
stencils up easily.  There are 5 stencils with this set.  I used the same ink for both
layers of the petals and leaves.

After stenciling, I tore a piece of vellum to place the die cut beautiful and
heat embossed you.

I had also pressed it trying Versafine Clair Morning Mist ink.

I started out with yellow flowers and wasn't happy with the colors.
So I went over them with Distress Marmalade.  Didn't like that either.
Out came the Stampin' Up Tangerine Tango and Old Olive.

Good enough though not great.

This new die set was handy for covering up most of it.

Thanks again, Darnell for inspiring me to get out those stencils.
