Embossing Paste Play

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers made cards using embossing paste.

I chose this stencil that has two branches on it and white embossing paste.
I put a drop of Mint Macaroon re-inker on my craft mat and mixed some embossing
paste into it until the color was smooth and even.

Using a palette knife, I added the paste through the stencil and when it was covered
good, I scraped it smooth with the same knife.

I used the larger branch for this first card and made it into a Dogwood tree.
Our dogwoods are blooming now and so pretty!

The leaves weren't quite dark enough, so I replaced the stencil after the paste
was dry and sponged some darker green ink on the base of the leaves.

The second card was done using the smaller branch and I got some smudges of
embossing paste where they didn't belong.

The wings of this butterfly covered the smudges very well.  It was cut from
a piece of silver sparkle specialty paper that had alcohol ink dripped on top and
moved around with a puffer.

Smaller flowers made this into a cherry tree or some kind of blooming tree.

I've learned to clean the stencil as soon as I finish with the paste.  I keep a dish of
water in the studio to drop the stencil in when I'm finished.  When I'm ready to take
it to the sink, the paste hasn't hardened on the stencil. And it's very easy to add color
to the paste with re-inkers.

The Group of Seven blogsite has some step by step instructions and a linky.
If you'd like to try this you can add your card and let us know how it worked
for you.

Two beautiful cards. Great job with the stencil and embossing paste. Love the dogwood flowers and the pretty sparkly butterfly on the second card. You always do a wonderful job with these techniques and are a great inspiration. Got to try this technique.

I'd give anything to see your Dogwoods, Bonnie! But these do the job just beautifully - what a wonderful idea to add this shimmer-y paste to those petals! I sure wish you could come color MY butterflies - I'm not sure they would stand still for the glitter paste - but I can guarantee there might be a little alcohol involved!! lol
Two beautiful cards!

Great ideas with texture paste Bonnie, and I love the beautiful green texture paste stencilled leaves on both cards with the different flowers beautifully coloured, and your added purple and gold butterfly looks so pretty whether or not it is covering a little mishap it goes perfectly and I love the finishing touches with the spattering on the first and then the little gold gems on the second, and a lovely sentiment on each. x

I just did a DT card with paste and forgot how much it adds to a card. It made your leaves so dimensional, Bonnie, and those dogwood blossoms are gorgeous. The fact the smudges made the butterfly necessary was a good thing. The shiny purple is so pretty.

Absolutely gorgeous Bonnie, the addition of the flowers over your stenciled leafy branch is stunning. You have reminded me to pull out my dogwood die, I'm looking forward to my trees blooming this summer ♥

WOW! Both of these cards are absolutely GORGEOUS Bonnie! The paste really does add so much wonderful texture to your leaves and your blooms are soooo pretty...especially with the shimmer and shine! That butterfly with all the SHINE is gorgeous too! Sure wish we had some color up here in Michigan...I'm jealous of all you're seeing right now! Hugs. :0)

Two beautiful cards, Bonnie. Great idea to go over the leaves with darker green ink on the dogwood card. Your dogwood flowers are perfect - you totally captured the colouring on them. The second card has lovely spring blossoms. The butterfly is beautiful - love the way you dropped the alcohol ink on silver paper and blew it around - I must try that.

Two gorgeous cards Bonnie. Love the deep green leaves with so much depth and texture. The dogwood blossoms are so pretty and realistic. Great colouring. We have a lot of dogwood trees here ... it's B.C.'s official flower. :) And I love your second branch with your blossom. Great save by adding the beautiful butterfly. xx

What a beautiful combination of stencil, dies, and stamping on these two cards! The Dogwood blooms are so pretty with the inked edges and Prills centers. Still waiting for my pink Dogwood to bloom. The gorgeous shimmery butterfly on your second card did a wonderful job of hiding those wayward smudges. Love the bits of gold and the cute sentiment. Springtime smiles to you!
