Turning the Page September 2022

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Time to turn the page on our calendars to a new month.

I make calendars each year for my desk and my family.

I thought I'd set up a regular post on the last day of each month to share them.

I hope you enjoy my “Turning the Page” posts.

Here's our September page using Blooming with Kindness (ret. SU)

By the way, the calendars are 4 ½ inches by 7 inches.

They can be clipped together and can be displayed on an easel or hung

on a push pin or magnetic hook.  We all have a different way to display them.

If you would like a word document with the calendar, email me (bonklass(at)gmail(dot)com.

and I will be glad to send it to you so you can design your own.

If your email address is not in your profile, I have no way to send this to you.

Email link is in my profile on the sidebar.

Enjoy!

African Daisies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have finally been inspired to get this Paint a Flower African Daisies stamp out of NBUS.

I did a partial stamping on Altenew Watercolor paper with Warm Glow ink
to get a no-line watercolor look.

It was disappointing that this watercolor paper wasn't like the paper in their
Watercolor Coloring Book.  That's my favorite watercolor paper, but this comes
in a close second.

To color I used Altenew Watercolors and my waterbrush, then did a little
touch up with my watercolor pencils.

The actual frame is lighter brown than the photo shows.

That was fun.  I don't know what took me so long!

Challenges:
Altenew - Inspiration Challenge (see photo below)
NBUS #41 - Never Before Used Schtuff

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Paint a Flower African Daisy, Fragile Foliage (Alt)
Ink:   Warm Glow (GKD), Soft Suede (SU)
Paper:   Watercolor (Alt), Warm Cocoa (GKD), Neenah Solar White
Other:  Altenew Watercolor (Warm Sunshine, Autumn Blaze, Mocha), Linen Thread

Double Stamped Vellum and Pig Fairy Wand

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Last week my friend Chrissie (Simply One of a Kind) did a tutorial for
Splitcoaststampers.  I had watched her videos before and this gave me just the
push to try this technique and use it for my demo at Craft Group this month.

Simply put, you stamp on the front of your vellum piece with an embossing
ink and heat emboss.  When it's cool, you turn it over and stamp with a color
on the backside.

I'll warn you.  The technique is like eating a potato chip.  You want to keep
trying different stamps!  Some worked well.  Others did not but I sure had
a fun time trying different stamps out.

I think this was my favorite.

If you'd like to watch Chrissie's videos you can go here and here.
If you'd like to see a written tutorial, you can see it here.

On a more whimsical note...

Our swap was to be something with farm animals.  Here's what I did for my swaps...

A close up

Years ago, 2012 to be exact, I saw this idea on Bernie's blog (Bernie's Craft Closet).
Sadly Bernie lost her battle with cancer in 2013.

I had saved this pig fairy digital image about the same time and was
excited to be able to put my hands on it.  I think the digital company has ceased
to exist because I couldn't find it online.

The gals loved the Pig Fairy Wands and everyone is hoping they work!
They enjoyed the technique too and each one made several.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Serene (PB), Tiny Sayings (Ali)
Ink:   VersaMark, Old Olive
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Vellum Cardstock (SU)
Other:  Stitched Rectangles Dies (SSS), Airy Die (PB)

Recipe (Pig Fairy Wand)
Stamps:  Digital Pig Fairy (company out of business)
Sentiment:  Computer Generated
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Glitter Paper (SU & MB)
Other:  Copics (RV000, RV00, RV52, B0000), Scallop Diamond Tags (PPP), Skewers, Ribbon, Silver Twine (stash)

Enjoy!

Chocolate Mint

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm busy preparing for our Craft Group meeting this week.  I'm doing the demo so it's
extra busy.  I'll be sharing some of the designs for the demo and my swaps later
this week.

I did take some time out to do a card for the Color Hues Challenge of
Chocolate and Mint.

My first instinct was to go with ice cream but this stamp was laying on the table
and an idea formed.

I stamped this image with Chocolate Chip ink and heat embossed with clear powder.

I should have waited to color with a Distress Marker because the butterfly
smeared.  So I set it aside until the next day and stamped another butterfly,
heat embossed and let it sit while I colored the rest of the image by
picking up color swiped on my palette.

This time the butterfly didn't get a chocolatey smear and after he was
colored, I fussy cut him out to pop over the uh-oh.

Challenges:
Color Hues #47 - Chocolate and Mint

We've had some visitors to our lantana blooms.

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Botanical Notes (PB)
Ink:   Chocolate Chip, Twisted Citron DOX
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore), Neenah Natural
Other:  Elegant Stitching Frames Die (PB), Clear EP

Holly Days

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

There's a couple of days left to join in at CAS Mix Up where we're using
an Emboss Resist Technique.

I've stamped the music from the Penny Black Footnotes set and
heat embossed in white before sponging Distress Oxide ink over top.

I die cut the holly from watercolor paper and colored with a waterbrush and
smooshed ink.  When I was done painting the leaves, I pressed them into the
watery ink left on my palette.

When the die cut was completely dry, I pressed it into my VersaMark pad
then heat embossed with clear powder for a shiny look.

Challenge ends August 24

also joining in again at

Anything goes with the option of music
I used the option this time

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Footnotes (PB), Happy Holly Days (HA)
Ink:   Whisper White, Rustic Wilderness DOX, Real Red Marker, VersaMark, Garden Green
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Watercolor (Arches Cold Press)
Other:  Holly Berry Branch Die (PB), White EP, Clear EP

Enjoy!

Lovely Lady

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I stamped this beautiful butterfly on vellum with VersaMark Ink and heat embossed.

When cool, I colored the backside with Copic Markers.

Did you know that if you're doing this technique and you don't like the colors,
you can use a bit of alcohol on a swab or your 0 Copic to remove the color?

I found that I could do this several times without ruining the vellum.

I used part of this flower stamp inking and spritzing with water for
a place for this butterfly to visit.

Then I got a little carried away with the splatters.

Challenge:

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Together, Carefree Wishes, Butterfly Trio (PB)
Ink:   VersaMark, Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Peeled Paint, Mowed Lawn, Versafine Onyx Black
Paper:  Mixed Media (Strathmore 400 series), Neenah Solar White, Vellum
Other:  White EP, Copic Markers, Sharpies

Enjoy!

More Dragonflies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

This stenciled dragonfly background was in my UFO box.

I'd used VersaMark through the stencil, removed the stencil,
then sprinkled a sparkly embossing powder over the top and heat embossed.

The die cut dragonfly is from a Memory Box Corner die.  It was easy to snip
him away from the grasses.  I smacked him into the embossing pad (don't
worry, I did it quite gently) and heat embossed him with the same powder.
I gave him another coat for good measure.

The cattails die is unnamed.  It was a gift from a sweet friend.

I've done a lot to empty that UFO box.  Unfortunately the UFOs seem
to be multiplying!  Do you have that problem too?

Challenges:
Snippets Playground #434 - (Used a snippet of white cardstock for the die cut dragonfly)

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Bermuda Bay, Neenah Solar White
Other:  Dragonfly Stencil (Magenta), Dragonfly Stems Left Die (ret MB), Long Island Teal EP (WOW), Cattails Die (?), Mini Slimline Double Stitched Dies (Kat Scrappiness), Subtle EF (ret SU)

Enjoy!

Blue Christmas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I saw the mood board at the Peace on Earth challenge, I knew I wanted
to use my Tim Holtz Woodlands die.

I die cut the largest tree from Glimmer Paper and used tape behind to
keep the little pieces intact.  I die cut again to add thickness to the tree.

I had these pretty blue gems in my stash the worked perfectly for ornaments.

Stamps:  Season's Gifts (PB)

Merry and Aqua

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

Just a reminder that there's still time to join in at CAS Mix Up.

Here's a little inspiration for you.

This background was in my UFO box.  I vaguely remember stamping with one of
my friend Nance's background stamp and heat embossing.

It looked like linked Christmas ornaments to me so I took it in that direction
and lightly sponged some Peacock Feathers ink over an area in the middle,
fading out to the edges.

I found a snippet of watercolor smoosh in my background box and die cut an
ornament from it.  The ornament was then covered with Nuvo Crystal Glaze

My mixed media are stamping, heat embossing, sponging (emboss resist), and die cutting.

The challenge this month at CAS Mix Up is for mixed media using
emboss resist.  Our very talented host is Nancy and she and the rest of the team
have some fabulous inspiration cards to share with you on the challenge site.

I used the rest of the watercolor smoosh snippet to cut another ornament for a twofer.

This background was also in my UFO box.   I think this was from Nance too.
This time I added a gold die cut topper and a different die cut Merry.

Challenges:
CAS Mix Up - Emboss resist plus stamping and one other mixed media
Peace on Earth #21 - ATG Christmas (inspired by the mood board below)
Can You Handle the Pressure - ATG with Embossing

Pine Bough Joy

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I was excited to have a reason to pull out this NBUS die set that I got for
Christmas last year.  It's taken me far too long to put it to use!

I die cut the branches and pinecones from white cardstock and colored
with Copics.

I used the frame die that was in the same Christmas package.
It was it's first outing too.

I'm not going to wait so long to use this set again.
I love the way they go together.

At the Shore

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I used a smooshed mop up background from my stash to place behind the die cut circle
and a white gel pen to make the white dots.

So sorry to keep using retired products.  I do wish these companies wouldn't discontinue items so fast!

Challenges:
Double D - Lighthouse (Welcome back to the Design Team, Leslie.)
Krafty Chicks #623 - Stamping (Lighthouse and birds are stamped)

Continuing down the shore...

A sweet friend sent me this 3D wave embossing folder that I used on a piece
of Inka Gold Smoosh in my stash.

The fish are from a new die and are cut from a piece of watercolor background
colored in yellows.  There wasn't much of it left so I ended up with more
of the dark yellow than the light.  Hopefully there's enough yellow for
the Memory Box Challenge.  The sentiment is computer generated.

Challenges:
Four Seasons - Summer
NBUS #41 - Never Before Used Schtuff (Fish Die)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Sailing Home (ret SU), Fun Birthday Sentiments (oob HLS)
Ink:   Night of Navy
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Night of Navy
Other: Stitched Circle Die (LI oob), Thin Frames Circles (SSS), Smooth Sailing Dies (ret SU), Subtle EF (ret SU), White Gelly Roll Pen

 Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Watercolor
Other:  Waves 3D EF (MB), School of Fish Die (MB), Inka Gold Smoosh, Yellow Watercolor Smoosh, Clear Drops

Enjoy!
