Irises

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

As I write this, my neighbors yard is full of blooming irises.
That inspired me to pull out my favorite iris die and make my own garden inside.

For this first card, I used the outcut to stencil some flowers on the background
with Distress ink.  Then I touched them with a damp waterbrush to give it
a dreamy watercolor look.

I've watercolored the die cut with bolder colors to add on top.

Since I'd cut three irises and have two friends who love irises, I made another
birthday card with them.

This time I used the die to emboss the background and added some geometric sponging
in one corner.  I also did some very light sponging through the die cut to the
embossing in the background.  A foiled sentiment finished it off.

Challenges:
Color Hues #62 - Purple & Green
Penny Black Saturday - ATG using Penny Black Product - no option
Seize the Birthday - Birthday-no toppings
Tic Tac Toe - Middle Vertical Row (Die Cut, Free, Embossing)

Card Recipe
Stamps:  All Occasions (Jane's Doodles)
Ink:   Victorian Velvet, Wilted Violet, Aged Mahogany, Peeled Paint
Paper:   Mixed Media (Strathmore 400 Series), Neenah Solar White, Grapesicle MFT)
Other:  Single Iris Die (PB), Elegant Stitching Frames (PB), Happy Birthday Poe Script Die (MB)

Enjoy!

WOW! These are gorgeous and I love those backgrounds. These are beautifully framed too. I did try your technique on the first card with poor results. Time to try again after seeing these.

These are so pretty. Great idea to use the die cut piece for a stencil. Thanks for the idea.

Oh, Bonnie! They are both just gorgeous! Another fabulous die in your stash, another fantastic technique to try.

I am pea green with envy over your neighbor's flower garden.
What draws me first to your cards is the colors you use - such a beautiful shade of purple. Next I start looking at the design. You are so prolific and it seems that you are always having new designs. I can't imagine what your craft room looks like with all the stamps, dies and coloring mediums you use. Always a delight to visit you - wish we could have a cup of tea!

Two absolutely BEAUTIFUL cards Bonnie and since it is snowing here in my neck of the woods today, I am doubly glad to see your lovely cards inspired by your neighbor's garden! The Iris's are so pretty on their own, but your backgrounds on both cards are so soft and pretty too...LOVE it!! Hugs. :0)

Irises are one of my favourite flowers (ours are weeks away from blooming - lucky you to have them already in bloom and that gorgeous view of them in your neighbour's garden). Both cards are gorgeous - love the backgrounds you created for each, and the great framing.

The irises are beautiful but so are your backgrounds, Bonnie. The stenciled flowers put your single one in a garden where it belongs. The soft geometric inking on the other gives a lot os movement. I have this die and now you've inspired me to get it out.

Your iris cards are beautiful Bonnie. LOVE the soft, delicate iris blooms in the background of your first card ...gorgeous. And the layered framing is so pretty. The second card is another beauty. The iris die-cuts are watercoloured to perfection in both, and I love the soft geometric sponging in the corner ... so creative and fabulous! Great work my sweet friend. xx

I really love irises and they look spectacular when grown in numbers. Your cards are very special too. Love them both, but the background on the first one is very special xx

These irises are beautiful in shades of purple and I love both cards with the ornate stitching on the frames and a double layer to really show off the flowers and using the negative as a stencil with some added water is a great idea and so pretty on the first, and then embossing the background with the die on the second works equally well, and both styles of sentiment look lovely as finishing touches...two gorgeous elegant cards Bonnie. x

Oh, good heavens, we're not anywhere near irises here yet! Our azaleas aren't even blooming yet. Some sunshine and warmth would be nice. Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous iris cards today as well as a peek at your neighbor's garden. I adore how you did the backgrounds on both your cards. Such loveliness!

I'm rather fond of irises, we have many in our yard but none blooming yet. Your irises are GORGEOUS, and will be greatly loved and appreciated.

OMG Bonnie...your two purple iris cards are so beautiful and perfect for the challenges. TFS the beautiful photo of your neighbors iris garden too:-) I loved how you used the negative of your die cut iris to stencil the background on your 1st card. The negative dry embossing using the iris die and added soft background colors is so beautiful for your 2nd card background. Both cards are so creative and beautiful, my friend. Love and Hugs..Nancy
