Playdate with Nance

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When my friend Nance came to play, she brought some of her recent purchases
and I shared some of mine.  I've been seeing these postage stamp die, stamps and
stencils all over Blogland, some done by my favorite artists.  I was delighted to be able
to give them a try!

And since it's Stencil week at Darnell's I.D.E.A.S., I'll join her too.
My friends are so inspiring!

I think Waffle Flower needs to start designing stamps for the USPS!
They are much prettier than the post office offers.

She also brought her Spellbinders Towering Blooms Die.

I die cut all the pieces from Neenah Solar White cardstock while she was here
and colored the next day.

To color, I used blending brushes and Simon Says ink.

Instead of using it as two flowers, I layered both.  I wish I had placed it a bit
higher on the card base, but it's not moving now.

Challenges:
Darnell's I.D.E.A.S. - Fifth Monday is Stencil Week
Just Us Girls - Stencil Week

Card Recipe (card 1)

Card Recipe (card 2)

Ink:   Lilac, Amethyst, Iris, Aspen, Sage, Field (SSS), Rusty Hinge (SU)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Black Licorice (MFT)

July Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm back again....

This month our Group of Seven Cardmakers tried a very different technique that
our friend Jenny had used.  We couldn't find a name for it so Darnell, our word person
was consulted and came up with Kaleidoscope.

I thought about putting my design in a circle to mimic a kaleidoscope, but
opted for a hexagon instead.

I took a bit of a shortcut and pulled a watercolor background from my never ending
background stash.  I used a background stamp and heat embossed the image on said
piece.  Then I cut the image into one half inch strips, lined them up in a random
fashion onto a piece of cardstock and placed it behind the hexagon aperture.

Next up is another shortcut using patterned paper.

Then I wondered how it would look on a dry embossed piece.

It turned out to be my favorite.

I used this NBUS snowflake that I stamped, heat embossed, die cut and
watercolored on top.

I caught a photo of the tag before the snowflake landed on it so you could
actually see the pattern.

You can check out better instructions and the cards my GO7 friends and Jenny have
done at The Group of Seven Cardmakers blog.  If you try this technique,
we'd love for you to link it up with us.

Seize the Birthday Tic Tac Toe

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm excited to be Guest Designing today with the fabulous team from

The challenge this time is a Tic Tac Toe board.

I chose a diagonal column: Stripes, Clean & Simple, Sentiment without the word birthday

I had die cut this arched piece from a smooshed piece for a different card and didn't use it
so it was laying on the table.  Same thing for the fern. They kind of fell together and
looked good so that was a good starting point.

I wanted to keep this CAS and needed stripes, so I found a stiped embossing folder
and had textured stripes for the background.

The fern looked a bit lonely so I die cut some flowers and colored them
to take the stage with the fern.

The sentiment was easy since this plate presses and the die cuts a group of
birthday sentiments at the same time.  I have a box full of various
foiled and pressed birthday sentiments.

Thank you for the invitation.  It's always a pleasure to join you.
Let's go see what the talented designers did at

Card Recipe
Stamps:  BP Cheers to You (foiled)
Ink:   Pumice Stone (smooshing), Peeled Paint, Rustic Wilderness, Wilted Violet, Villianous Potion (DI)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Essential Arches (SB) Sword Fern Die (SSS), Wildflower Stems #2 (TH), Stripes EF (ret SU)

Enjoy!

More Die Cut Poppies

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I wanted to use my poppy die before I put it on the shelf and I loved the
colors I used for the last poppy card, but I went monochromatic on this one, using
just Calypso Coral.

I didn't do the watercoloring on a mixed media piece and tried to add the
same background look as on  my last card.  It does not work as well on
regular cardstock!

I hope I can remember that!

I die cut and colored another set with yellow.

The background was in the box.  I'm not sure what die was used.  I'm pretty sure
it was was done by a friend.  With the yellow peeking through, it made a
perfect background for the yellow poppies. This die cut fern is another favorite
die of mine.

The Group of Seven Cardmakers are showing monochromatic cards this month
so I'm adding the first card to that gallery.

Adding the second card to Simon Says Monday
Add a Sentiment

Card Recipe (card 1)
Stamps:  Bamboo Beauty (SU)
Ink:   Chocolate Chip, Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake
Paper:   Mixed Media, Neenah Solar White, Blush Blossom
Other:  Iceland Poppies, Anytime Tags (LI), Macramé EF (ret SU)

Card Recipe (card 2)
Stamps:  Banner Sentiments (PTI)
Ink:   (Flowers) Chocolate Chip, Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, Garden Green (SU), (fern) Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint (DI)
Paper:   Mixed Media, Neenah Solar White, Daffodil Delight
Other:  Iceland Poppies (SSS), Sword Fern (SSS), Honeycomb Die (?)

Hello Bee

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I found this design piece in my UFO box.  I think it was a leftover from a class.

It only took a few minutes to put it on a summertime card.

I didn't use to like bees, but I've learned how important they are to our environment and
worry when they aren't covering my lantana.  It seems like they're not as plentiful as they
used to be, but there are always some enjoying it.

Here's the card we did in a 2022 class.

Anemone Cluster

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love coloring die cuts and I love embossing.  It's not surprising that I LOVE
a combination of the two.

The sets that have dies that can be embossed are such fun!

First I die cut the flowers from mixed media paper.  Then I placed them in the
corresponding place in the embossing folder and embossed.
I also embossed a piece for the background.

I watercolored the flowers with Distress ink smooshed on my palette and picked
up with a damp waterbrush keeping the color in the center of the flowers.

If I lose any of the dimension by coloring, it's easy to place the flowers back
in the embossing folder and emboss them again.

I die cut and embossed some extra flowers...

colored and stacked them to make a fuller flower for a CAS version.

I'm joining my friend Darnell with her I.D.E.A.S. inspiration.
The 3rd Monday of the month is Embossing (either dry or wet)

Christmas Pine

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

My apologies to those of you who don't like seeing Christmas cards in the summer.

It helps me to make Christmas cards all year so I don't have a big push
in December.  I got caught one year and learned my lesson.

I found this tree all cut out and glued together in the folder with the die.  The little
birds were cut too and waiting to perch on some snowy branches.

A snippet of a background was a perfect fit and I liked how it looked on the dark navy
background.  The background was pierced with my snowflake backplate.  The photo refuses
to show the subtle pattern.

I pieced the sentiment from two different sets. Amazingly it came out straight.

Challenges:
Christmas Kickstart #88 - Festive Frames
Krafty Chicks #724 - Christmas
Peace on Earth #67 - See mood board below

Card Recipe
Stamps:  Holiday Snippets, Snippets (PB)
Ink:   Midnight Muse
Paper:   Midnight Muse, Garden Green, Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer, Red Glimmer, Mixed Media
Other:  Delicate Pine Frame Die (MB), Pinpoint Snowflake Plate (MB), Brushos

Enjoy!
