Hi there. I'm so glad you stopped by!
This month the Group of Seven Cardmakers are focusing on gilding flakes on acetate.
Gilding flakes are not my favorite. But this time I got better results than I usually do. I think
it may be because I used my fingers to rub off the excess flakes instead of the scrubby thing.
It does have a nice shine to it.
I inked the stamp with some Flitter Glue and stamped it on a piece of acetate.
It's important to wash the glue off immediately. I hope I got it all off. I used a
toothbrush to get into the crannies.
The glue stays tacky so there isn't a big rush to get the gilding flakes on it.
My pot has some quite large flakes in it so I was able to cover the glue quickly.
When it was covered with flakes, I used my fingers to rub off the excess and a
Swifter to get the excess off the acetate.
Both sides look nice and in the video, it shows putting it over an aperture.
Instead I framed it and used foam tape to elevate it over a background piece
from my stash that was a Brusho mop up. I should have done the aperture
because the foam tape has made it too thick to mail.
A word of warning when using gilding flakes. Don't have a fan going in the room!
And have a vacuum handy! Oh, and Brenda says not to cough. I imagine sneezing
could cause all kinds of flakey fall out too.
There's a video on the Group of Seven post and my teamies have some
much better examples to inspire you. There's a linky there too, if you want
to try gilding flakes on acetate and show us what you do.

Love the shine to your butterfly, Bonnie. It looks beautiful against the blue brusho background. Lovely layered framing too! I'm going to try your suggestion to rub off the excess with my fingers instead of the scrubby thing as I find the scrubby thing dulls the flakes a lot.
This has turned out brilliantly. I love the effect. I don't like the way gilding flakes have a mind of their own either. I have a box that I use for them. It helps a bit. You might just have tempted me to get it out xx
Amazing shine on your beautiful gilidng flakes butterfly Bonnie. It is so gorgeous and I love the mop-up background. Thanks for the warnings about coughing and sneezing. :) xx
Wow. The effect is stunning! A beautiful card overall. I have worked with gilding flakes once. Yep, messy!
Oh this is so gorgeous and shiny, Bonnie! Well done! I haven't used my gilding flakes for years. Thanks for the tips. I will add - beware of felines in the craft room while using them. ;)
I think your butterfly is beautiful Bonnie, and the blue background and frame look wonderful....a terrific card. x
Wow, your gold butterfly is so pretty and shiny too. Love it against the blue background and the way you framed it.
I'm so happy to leave those flakes to you pros, Bonnie! Even though I just know I had to buy a bottle of them years ago they lay idle buried amongst the other bottles of 'stuff.'
Your butterfly just couldn't be more gorgeous - looks like this one will just have to be 'hand delivered!' hint, hint
=]
Your gilded butterfly is gorgeous, Bonnie, especially against that Brusho background.
Loving your fancy shimmering butterfly, Bonnie! I don't own any gilding flakes, but am happy to see what you gals have done with them!
Beautiful gilded butterfly, it looks so dramatic against the blue background. I love it xx
OMG....Gorgeous Gilded Butterfly with the Pretty Blue Background....dear friend:-) Thank you so much for sharing:-) Love and Hugs.......Nancy
I think this is a WOW card Bonnie, and your gilding sure looks perfect to me! I have a little jar of the flakes that I think I've used once, and too chicken to try again! I love your Brusho background too...it makes the butterfly/moth (?) stand out even more! Beautiful framing too! And nothing wrong with hand delivering a card either...you'd probably get an enthusiastic hug for sharing this beautiful card!! Hugs. :0)
Oh I love this Bonnie! That butterfly gilded perfectly and so beautiful in the gold flakes - your mop up blue background is perfect behind it and your frames are so pretty! I just add more postage when a card ends up with too many layers! Julia xx
What a beautiful card! I love it. I have some flakes but will just admire others who have the courage to use them. I'm chicken. lol
It is beautiful! Love all that shine and I'm sure it's even more gorgeous in person. Hand-delivering is always a good option for those too dimensional to mail
Those flakes certainly are messy and it has been ages since I used mine. I think your butterfly is gorgeous and because he is so big I think it worked out better. You can really see all the sparkle. Awesome card!
The shine from this butterfly is gorgeous. I like how you framed it and how big it is. You're on to something by rubbing with your fingers. It gives it a shiny, softer look than the scrubbie. Great job.
Your card has two amazing elements. I love the beautiful blue background and all the sparkle of the gold on the butterfly. Great inspiration, my dear Bonnie.
xx
