Bidding Upsy Daisy a Fond Goodby

There's a new challenge out there.  It's called Dynamic Duos and it's hosted by the lovely Lesley of Always Playing with Paper.  Here's the scoop on this challenge.

Each week we will have two colours for you to use to create a card, scrapbook page, craft or digital project.  Only the two colours, otherwise known as "The Dynamic Duo", may be used for your project.  Neutrals such as black, brown, white, vanilla, skin colours and kraft are also welcome.

I love blue and green together!

Upsy Daisy has been a well loved set!  I've done the flowers in so many colors and layouts.  I'm not saying that I'll never use them again, because they'll be on my retired shelf and I don't mind pulling out the retirees.

The layout for this card is from Ariel's retrosketches challenge.  I've loved all the sketches she's posted, but don't always get to use one.  I'm so glad I got to use this sweet sketch.

After stamping, I went back with the fine point of the marker and added faint outlines to the petals and colored the centers of some of the daisies with Limeade.  It still has a soft watercolor effect.

A piece of DSP left over from Sale-a-bration was a perfect backdrop to this design.  (Do you think they picked the colors from this paper.)

Do you see that scalloped edge on top of the design piece?  I decided I needed something up there and did some paper piercing.  I had already put the pieces together and had to pierce from the back in order to get the line straight.  I know now that you really need to pierce from the front!  It badly needed a coverup.  I had this scrap of embossed Adorning Accents Edgelit scallops and with just a little tweaking it covered it up beautifully.  This is one case of a boo boo turning out better than planned.  I'm not telling you about all the plans that went in the circular file.

Hot Colors

Hi Stamping Friends.  I finally got some stamping time over the weekend, so I can share some cards with you.  Yay!!!   I love to stamp!

All of these are for the Less is More challenge...

Our first week of the month is another Colour challenge and redolent of bonfire flames we have chosen

Red and Orange

The first card is something I've wanted to do for a while and these colors were perfect for it.  I first stamped the flowers from the Upsy Daisy set with River Rock ink.   I used the little cluster of leaves from the Just Believe set to add some foliage by inking just a bit of the stamp.  Then I used my Tangerine Tango and Real Red markers to color the flowers. Sponging around the flowers added some depth to the design.  I also sponged a bit of Whisper White over it all and it gave it a misty look.

It has a narrow mat of Tangerine Tango on a whisper White card and a sentiment stamped in red.

On this next card, I stamped the flower from the Faith in Nature set with Timber Brown StazOn after stamping off on scrap paper.  I brushed ink from the Tangerine Tango and Cherry Red markers on an acrylic block and applied it to the flower with a blender pen.  I really did use Tangerine but in this picture the flower took on a rosy look.

I used Tangerine Tango and Cherry Cobbler to mat it and mounted it on some Whisper White embossed with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.  Fancy corners were done with the Scallop Trim Corner Punch and a scrap of Cherry Cobbler Seam Binding fit behind the design.

This last is a bookmark from a Show and Tell at the Newcomers Meeting last week.  I was asked to show what we did in our Papercrafting group and had bookmarks for people to stamp so they could see how fun it is.  We used Dusty Durango and Kiwi Kiss for the stamping.  After the meeting I added the Cherry Cobbler piece to the back.  It was just sitting there begging to be added to this challenge.

Well, it's taken me almost 5 hours to do this post.  Hopefully I can find some time to get a post in again tomorrow.  I have quite a few cards to share if I can get some time at the computer to edit photos and blog.

Upsy Daisy Funky Fold

Hello Creative Friends. Sorry for the delay in posts. We babysat over the weekend and it always takes a while to recover from having so much fun. We have some of the sweetest grandchildren in the world. Of course there is no prejudice there at all!



A while back I posted a card made with this fold. The base card is cut as a tent fold by cutting the cardstock the long way at 4 1/4" and folding in half to make a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card. Then I cut 1" the end of the front of the card. I used the Scallop Trim Border Punch (free with $50.00 order until the end of this month) on the short side and also punched a 2 1/8" piece of Rose Red to adhere on the back piece. This Upsy Daisy stamp is one of my favorites. I stamped the flowers with So Saffron ink and used a cotton swab dipped in Rose Red ink to add some color to some of the flowers. The stems are traced with a Certainly Celery Marker and the sentiment (from the Heard from the Heart set) is stamped in Bravo Burgundy.

I have been busy today doing challenge cards. I've almost finished the second one and as soon as I have pics, I'll share them with you.

Creative Arts Class

Since we are new to the area, I joined the Cary Newcomers Club. It's a great club with lots of interest group meetings throughout the month. One of the interest groups is Creative Arts and I jumped into that one. I have really enjoyed meeting these creative ladies and look forward to seeing lots of them in the future. I am hosting the group this month and this is what we are going to do....

I hope they like them. I've got to start cutting them out so I will have to share the details with you later. Remind me if I forget.
