Hydrangeas

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I love hydrangeas and I think the deer do too.  Our pink hydrangea (the only one I have
in my yard) seems to have tasty buds because something eats them right off before they open.
They are too tall for the rabbits so I think it must be deer.

So, I have to put them on a card if I want to enjoy them.

I stamped the Paint a Flower Hydrangea from Altenew on a piece of watercolor
paper with Archival Shadow Gray ink and colored with my Altenew watercolor 36
pan set using the colors from their Inspiration Challenge this month.

Then I did a lighter version.

I stamped the same way but used Distress Markers to color.  I die cut the design
with my new to me Essential Arches die and made a shaped card with the dies to
put it on.  I added some Nuvo Crystal drops for a bit of subtle interest.

Off the Edge for Group of Seven Cardmakers

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

We're doing something different at Group of Seven Cardmakers this month.
Instead of a new technique, we are using an oldie but goodie; Off the Edge.

A sweet friend gifted me with this fern stamp and another friend inspired me with a beautiful
birthday card using this stamp.  I pretty much copied the coloring of the ferns f
rom that birthday card.  Thank you for the wonderful inspiration, Nancy!

Placing the stamp and paper so the stamp set off the edge, I used my MISTI and first
inked the stamp with light green, gave it a quick spritz and stamped.
I used a waterbrush to move the ink around.  Then I used a sponge dauber to
add a darker green ink in the middle of each frond.  I kept doing this, using darker inks until
I had the depth of color that I liked.

The bird was cut from Neenah Solar White and colored with Copic Markers
His tail hangs a bit off the edge too.

I finished up with a sentiment and some gold Nuvo drops.

This is such a great technique for a large stamp like this fern.

Let's go see what the rest of the Group of Seven Cardmakers have been creating
off the edge this month.  And we have an honorary member of our group,
Nancy (Scandinancy Creates).  I know she will inspire you too.

Christmas Lights

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

When I saw the mood board at the latest Peace on Earth challenge, I knew it would be a
good opportunity to get this string of lights die out of my NBUS box.

The time almost got away from me, but I think I've managed to get this done in time
to join in with the challenge.

I cut the whole die out of white cardstock and again from a strip of gold.  This set has some
separate bulb dies so I cut them out of snippets of foil cardstock.

I colored the cord with a marker and blender pen and glued the color foil bulbs to the
gold and onto the white base.

These little pine sprigs worked great to decorate each bulb. They were cut from a
snippet of light green cardstock and sponged with a darker green ink and layered
two sprigs on each bulb.  Then I placed it all on an embossed background.

Challenges:
Peace on Earth Christmas #42 - ATG Christmas inspired by those shiny bulbs
NBUS #51 - Never Before Used Schtuff
ABC Christmas L & M - Lots of Layers (the light bulbs have 5 layers
Krafty Chicks - All Occasions (Christmas)

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:   Rustic Wilderness (DI)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White, Red, Green & Blue foil cardstock
Other:  Twinkle Lights dies (Spl), Forever Green EF (Spl), Pine Sprig Cluster Die (IO), Tis the Season Die (Creative Expressions), Nuvo Crystal Drops (Autumn Red)

Enjoy!

Butterflies for Craft Group

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

We're still not seeing many butterflies or bees in our yard.

But I have an abundance of butterflies in my craft collection.

I needed to make some butterfly cards for our Craft Group swaps this month.

The hardest thing about this assignment was deciding which butterfly to use.
I ended up going with this large one from Penny Black's Butterfly Trio.

I stamped and heat embossed a few on mixed media paper.  Some were embossed with
white and some with black.

Then I colored with Distress Markers and my waterbrush changing up the colors.

No die for this stamp, but it's easy to fussy cut.

I am accumulating some beautiful 3D embossing folders from the Spellbinders club.  So
I embossed a few backgrounds to mount the butterflies on.

Here's another that won't make it to the craft group...

The swaps and aqua butterfly card are A6 size cards and I embossed the flap of an
envelope to go with each.

Here's a peek at the swaps with the black embossing.

Yellow Magnolia

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I have a new die...

and with the Color Hues challenge being yellow and green (two of my favorite colors),
I Googled to see if magnolias came in yellow.  They do.

So I die cut the flowers and branch from mixed media paper and used Distress Markers
and my waterbrush to color all the pieces.

When coloring the leaves and flowers, I laid the pieces on another piece of mixed
media paper and did a sloppy watercoloring going over the edges onto the
piece in the background.  It gives an interesting background and the colors are perfect.

Then I looked at all those pieces and was stumped as to where they all went.

Fortunately there are some illustrations online that act as a roadmap and I've
got to say that although these flowers are pretty without all the extra little pieces, they are
amazing with them. And I was quite proud of myself that I could find all the pieces!

Color Hues - Yellow & Green

Birthday Balloons

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

My last card as Surprise Party Guest at Seize the Birthday.
I have really enjoyed my party time with this fun team.
Thank you so much for the honor and the warm welcome.

The balloons were cut from coated paper colored with Alcohol Pearls.
They have a wonderful shimmer that doesn't show up well in the photos.

The birthday was die cut from shaving cream & re-inker on coated paper.
The strings were tied on with DMC metallic thread.

It was all put on last month's 3D Embossing Folder from the Spellbinders club.

Oops. I had to go back and add something.

This is going to a very special almost 12 year old. It's hard to believe that Jack
is almost a teenager!  Where did that time go?

Potpourri Background

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

I'm having so much fun being a party guest at Seize the Birthday that I had
to make another birthday card with a banner.

I've used a NBUS background die for this card.  It's been cut and stacked
three layers deep.  I sponged some yellow ink in the center of the large flower and
die cut another to place over top.  The leaves were cut from a different NBUS die and
sponged with colored before tucking them around the flower.

The banner was embossed using a very old PTI die then cut with scissors.

Trying to get my money's worth out of what I buy, I did two more cards
using this background die.

First up....

The smile die is included with the background and also a love die.

And then cutting the large flower from an ink smooshed background...

And there's a little piece of that fun Spellbinders embossing folder that I used before.
(You can sew more of this embossing folder in action here.)

Be sure to check out what the Design Team have come up with. You're sur
to be inspired.

Don't forget you can do anything as long as it's a birthday card.  The topping is optional
but adds some extra fun!

Challenges:
Color Hues #66 -  Yellow & Green (or in this case Green & Yellow)
Seize the Birthday - ATG Birthday using topping
NBUS #51 - Never Before Used Schtuff (background die)

Card Recipe (card 1)

Other:  Potpourri Dies (C9), Basic Bookmark Die (PTI)

Card Recipe (card 2)
Stamps:  Sending You (CreekBank), Bee Kind Toile (Power Poppy)
Ink:   Versafine Onyx Black, Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade (DOX)
Paper:   Neenah Solar White
Other:  Potpourri Dies (C9)

Father's Day

Hi there.  I'm so glad you stopped by!

The background for this card was done with our GO7 Alcohol Ink on Gel Plate technique
from a couple of month's ago.

Since my hubby likes waterfowl, I went with this Lake Loon die and used the gel plate
background for the sky.  The loon was die cut again from a snippet of watercolor paper,
fussy cut and colored with some watercolor pencils.  Adding another layer to the loon
added extra depth.

I used a grass embossing folder to add some extra depth to the area around the die cut.

Challenges:
Simon Says Monday - Masculine
Try it on Tuesday - Birds or Feathers

Card Recipe
Stamps:
Ink:
Paper:  Neenah Solar White, Watercolor (Arches), Smoky Slate
Other:  Alcohol Ink (Shell Pink, Sunshine Yellow, Sailboat), 91% Alcohol, Gel Plate, Lake Loon Die (GM), Grass Silhouette EF (Darice), Caran d'ache Supracolor Pencils (Charcoal, Black)

Enjoy!
