I love hydrangeas and I think the deer do too. Our pink hydrangea (the only one I have
in my yard) seems to have tasty buds because something eats them right off before they open.
They are too tall for the rabbits so I think it must be deer.
So, I have to put them on a card if I want to enjoy them.
I stamped the Paint a Flower Hydrangea from Altenew on a piece of watercolor
paper with Archival Shadow Gray ink and colored with my Altenew watercolor 36
pan set using the colors from their Inspiration Challenge this month.
Then I did a lighter version.
I stamped the same way but used Distress Markers to color. I die cut the design
with my new to me Essential Arches die and made a shaped card with the dies to
put it on. I added some Nuvo Crystal drops for a bit of subtle interest.

Bonnie, remember when I said that my hydrangea plants are beautiful but never produce flowers? This year, they are barely making leaves - something is very wrong.
I think you have the right idea and have colored both of your branches so perfectly, too. I really studied your first card before moving on to your lighter version. No, I can't choose - they are both so beautiful! One frameable, the next made its own frame!

Amazing watercoloring, Bonnie. You really brought those hydrangeas to life. Sorry about the real ones. I know squirrels kept eating the buds on my daughter's rhododendron. I mean if they actually ate them it would be better than just nipping them off. lol
Love the first hydrangea card the best! Coloring, background/splatters...all just great! I too have hydrangeas but never had an issue with deer...they eat other things, but for whatever reason, have left the hydrangeas alone!
Wow, both these cards are beautiful, Bonnie! Expert coloring. Love both shades of pink. All my hydrangeas are shades of blue, plus one white. Cannot manage a pink one because of our acidic soil. Deer love them. I use a spray called Deer Out (Amazon), but I have to get to the new growth before they do. BTW, the spray smells like peppermint and is safe for animals.
Your watercolouring is just fabulous on these beautiful hydrangeas Bonnie, and love both versions but maybe am drawn a little more to the arched shape, diamond embossed background and sweet little added crystal drops on the second. x
Your hydrangeas look wonderful and such good water colouring. What a shame about the deer. I have some hydrangeas in pots and the flowers are just coming. No deer in my garden, thankfully xx

I love hydrangeas too (fortunately I have no deer visiting my garden!). You painted them beautifully with wonderful shading in the petals and leaves. Great variation of layouts on the two cards!

Gorgeous cards Bonnie! Great Colouring! I was playing with stamp on vellum last week, but I haven't taken a photo of it yet.
Two beauties Bonnie.
I have a couple of hydrangeas, both are in a very shaded part of my garden - one in a raised bed outside my kitchen window which gets the sun for only about 30 minutes a day in the summer so I filled it with woodland plants- ferns and things - this year the stuff in that bed has grown mad. The hydrangea in particular is simply fab. It's strange the way plants behave!
You wait, yours will bloom magnificently next season! x
Lovely cards. We have hydrangeas in front of the house and must have some wierd soil...they start out a lovely blue and around July they start turning pink on the new buds...
I'm so sorry to hear about the deer chowing down on your hydrangea's, but your water colored ones are absolutely GORGEOUS Bonnie!! I love both versions with the brighter and lighter colors...soooooo pretty!! Hugs. :0)
Two beautiful watercolored hydrangeas. My favourite is the second one… love the softer colours and the arch shape.
It's a good thing we can resort to our paper versions of those favorite flowers! Two beautiful cards, Bonnie. I love them both, but the first one is pretty spectacular!

I always admire your design variations, Bonnie! Both hydrangea cards are fabulous! The watercolored one is stunning, and I love the way you stamped the sentiment. The arch shaped card is so elegant, and the subtle embossed texture and Crystal drops are wonderful finishing touches.Sorry about your pink hydrangea in your garden. We have a similar problem with our persimmons. Squirrels eat them before the fruit ripens!

Wow Bonnie, your cards are stunning! I love both, the darker blooms and the lighter blooms. Hydrangeas are gorgeous flowers. I have one but it hasn't bloomed in a while. So I need to research it to see why. I have deer, but so far they haven't eaten my hydrangeas, maybe because they have plenty of corn and soybeans to eat. LOL Hugs, Brenda
